Leo Henghes, Co-Founder & Team Leader

Leo has worked for UniTED in Uganda for over 4 years, relocating to Nsiberwa Hall, Makerere on graduating from PPE at Oxford University. He’s been featured as Young Person of the Month on Opportunity Desk and was a 2016 YouthActionNet Global Fellow.


Vicky Clayton, Co-Founder

Having paused her studies in 2013 to help set up UniTED, Vicky now works as a behavioral economist. She holds an MSc in Human Decision Science from Maastricht University. In her spare time, she plays korfball – you can google it for an explanation!

Sidney Muhangi, Co-Founder & Trustee

Sidney helped to lay the foundations for UniTED in Uganda with Leo. He’s a current Commonwealth Scholar, a former Mandela-Rhodes Scholar, and a finalist of the 2014 Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition with a mushroom farming venture.


Louis Graham, Co-Founder & Trustee (Treasurer)

Louis is a behavioral economist in development. He’s lived in Uganda (2 years), Thailand (1 year), the UK (most of his life!), and now Kenya. He has an MSc in Economics from Oxford. He handles UniTED’s finances and various motorbikes, with equal care.

Patrick Proctor, Trustee (Chair)

Patrick has worked for NGOs in Africa, South-East Asia, Latin America, and Europe. He’s been with VSO since 2004 and is currently their Operations Director for East and West Africa. He holds an MSc in Development Management and an MA in English Language and Literature.


Zoe Cuckow,  Trustee (Secretary)

Zoe first volunteered with UniTED in 2013, helping to build up our  toolkits for student ventures. She then co-lead the Oxford chapter, before joining our board. She works for Oxygen, who provide a space for the co-creation of game-changing sustainable social projects, having previously worked with Student Hubs.

Katie Husselby, Trustee

Katie became a trustee after successfully leading the growth of the Oxford chapter as President. She’s recently graduated from Oxford University, where she also co-founded the Oxford Menstrual Hygiene Management Conference.



Chris Waller, Trustee

Chris graduated from Oxford with a degree in Economics and Management. He’s now (probably) the youngest person in his MBA class at Columbia Business School in New York.



Jessica Falkner, Trustee (Fundraising)

Jessica’s passion for creating sustainable change began as a Rural Community Health Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Morocco. After law school in America, she decided to pursue public interest law abroad and is currently working as a Legal Fellow with the International Justice Mission in Uganda.

Alex Farley, Trustee

Alex is undertaking an Msc in African Development at London School of Economics. She became a trustee following her involvement with the Oxford chapter of United as an undergraduate. She also volunteers with the Global Menstrual Health Hub working on reproductive policy. 


Dr Eria Hisali, Patron

The Principal of Makerere University’s College of Business and Management Sciences, Dr Hisali specialises in Econometrics and Development Economics. He’s been part of UniTED from the beginning, having previously been one of our 3 founding trustees.

Miles Young, Patron

Miles Young is the Warden of New College, Oxford. One of his first acts as Warden was to agree to become a Patron of UniTED.  Previously, he was worldwide Chairman and CEO of the international advertising, marketing and public relations agency Ogilvy & Mather.

Bamber Gascoigne, Patron

Bamber Gascoigne is most famous for presenting University Challenge for 25 years – creating catchphrases such as “starter for ten” and “fingers on the buzzers”. He’s written dozens of books and TV documentaries, and has established an online history encyclopaedia, HistoryWorld.



Robert Kyeyagalire, Advisor

Robert completed his Bachelor’s degree at Makerere before joining  an MSc in Global Health Science at Oxford. Having worked as the Monitoring and Evaluations guy for the Gates Foundation in Uganda, he’s now employed by PwC. He’s an early believer in UniTED, and is passionate about giving young people opportunities.



Alexander McLean, Advisor

Alexander is the founder of African Prisons Project, a charity which delivers vital education, health and legal services across 30 prisons in Uganda and Kenya. He’s also a TED and an Ashoka Fellow, and been named in TIME magazine’s 30 People Under 30 Changing the World.

Jessie Elisberg, Adivsor

Jessie manages programs and operations for YouthActionNet at the International Youth Foundation. She loves learning, and has an MA in International Development, a BA in Linguistics, and a variety of certifications including PMD Pro, Wilderness First Response, and Zumba Instruction.
