Leo Henghes, Co-Founder & Executive Director
On graduating from Oxford with a degree in Philosophy, Politics, and Economics, Leo moved to Makerere University’s Nsibirwa Hall to start UniTED. Since then, he’s been featured as Young Person of the Month on Opportunity Desk and become a YouthActionNet Global Fellow.
Patrick Proctor, Trustee (Chair)
Patrick has worked for NGOs in Africa, South-East Asia, Latin America, and Europe. He’s been with VSO since 2004 and is currently their Operations Director for East and West Africa. He holds an MSc in Development Management and an MA in English Language and Literature.
Sidney helped to lay the foundations for UniTED in Uganda with Leo. He was awarded a Mandela-Rhodes scholarship at the start of 2016, and so moved on up to our board of trustees and down to South Africa. He also runs a cooperative mushroom farming project which came 6th in the 2014 Global Social Entrepreneurship Competition.
Vicky Clayton, Co-Founder
Having paused her studies in 2013 to help set up UniTED, Vicky is now doing a Masters in Human Decision Science at Maastricht University. In her spare time, she plays korfball – you can google it for an explanation!
Deus Kamanyire, Trustee
Deus heads Child Protection at Plan International, Rwanda. He’s worked in the development sector for 15 years, primarily managing programs centred around women and children. He’s currently studying for a PhD in Development Studies at JKUAT.
Louis Graham, Co-Founder & Trustee (Treasurer)
Louis is currently doing an Economic Masters at Oxford. Before that, he spent 2 years in Uganda managing monitoring and evaluation at Whave, a water charity, as well as working for UniTED. He handles UniTED’s finances and various motorbikes, with equal care.
Dr Eria Hisali, Trustee
The Principal of Makerere University’s College of Business and Management Sciences, Dr Hisali specialises in Econometrics and Development Economics. He’s been part of UniTED from the beginning, having previously been the patron of the Oxford-Makerere partnership.
Katie Husselby, Trustee
Katie is a student of English Literature at Oxford University. She became a trustee after successfully leading the growth of the Oxford chapter as President. She’s also co-founded the Oxford Menstrual Hygiene Management Conference.
Marco Mills, Trustee
Marco interned with UniTED in 2015 and it went so well he became a trustee! He recently graduated with a Masters in African Studies from Oxford University and flies planes in his spare time.
Zoe Cuckow, Trustee (Secretary)
Zoe first volunteered with UniTED in 2013, helping to build up our project narrative toolkits for students. She then co-lead the Oxford chapter, before joining our board. She’s also just finished her degree in
Anthropology and Archaeology and is currently working for Student Hubs.
Chris Waller, Trustee
Chris graduated from Oxford with a degree in Economics and Management. He’s now (probably) the youngest person in his MBA class at Columbia Business School in New York.
Jessica Falkner, Trustee (Fundraising)
Jessica’s passion for creating sustainable change began as a Rural Community Health Volunteer with the Peace Corps in Morocco. After law school in America, she decided to pursue public interest law abroad and is currently working as a Legal Fellow with the International Justice Mission in Uganda.
Robert Kyeyagalire, Advisor
Robert completed his Bachelor’s degree at Makerere before joining an MSc in Global Health Science at Oxford. Having worked as the Monitoring and Evaluations guy for the Gates Foundation in Uganda, he’s now employed by PwC. He’s an early believer in UniTED, and is passionate about giving young people opportunities.
Alexander McLean, Advisor
Alexander is the founder of African Prisons Project, a charity which delivers vital education, health and legal services across 30 prisons in Uganda and Kenya. He’s also a TED and an Ashoka Fellow, and been named in TIME magazine’s 30 People Under 30 Changing the World.
